Funding

Calgary Reads receives no government funding

We meet our current budget of nearly $500,000 through the generosity of individual, corporate and foundation donors, and the success of our annual CBC Calgary Reads book sale. We run a very lean operation administratively, with all but 18% of our budget going to programming. Currently Calgary Reads employs paid staff of 4.2 full time equivalents and over 700 volunteers.

Every dollar donated has a purpose.
Here are examples of costs for our core programs:

One Session of Tutor Training

$1000

Core Tutoring for one child

$450

Start-up Book Bin with leveled materials for schools

$1500

50 Training Manuals for tutor training

$500

Tutor Book Packages for CalgaryReads@Home families

$250

Together Event including one book per child

$2000

CalgaryReads@Home four night series

$5000

Even a $10 donation makes a big difference by providing a student a new book and book bag. Many students in Calgary Reads tutoring programs have never owned even one book of their own.

Calgary Reads has reached a critical point in our organizational development

As Calgary grows, so does the need for our valuable programming, and the community is crying out for our support. Our existing programs continue to be oversubscribed and we have identified a need in the areas of teacher professional development, and support for families with children aged 0-6 years to ensure successful literacy outcomes.

Our continued success and future growth depends on our ability to attract funders and partners like you. Please consider giving to Calgary Reads and bring the joy of reading into the life of a child. We are happy to accept your tax deductible gift by mail at  4105-26 Ave SE, Calgary, T2B OC6 or donate now online using the donate now button to the right.

Thank you for your support of Calgary Reads.
