Read to children in schools

Make a difference one book at time

There’s something magical about reading books aloud to children. It opens their minds and hearts to reading and sparks a sense of curiosity that can energize a lifetime of learning.

Calgary Reads offers several school-based reading and tutoring programs for young children. And we need your help. Each program relies on volunteers to make them successful. You can volunteer as an individual or as a member of your work or community team.

“Thank you Calgary Reads for making an amazing difference for Pearl and for our whole family. The work you do to support students who need extra literacy help and give them the skills to become confident learners is fantastic. We are all very grateful to you for this incredible gift.”

“My favourite part is watching the sparkle in a child’s face and the pride and relief in parents’ eyes when a struggling reader becomes a child who reads with confidence.”

“The students were spoiled through literacy from start to finish. From the moment they walked through the doors, students were met with excitement and enthusiasm for reading. The Stantec and community volunteers acted as true champions of literacy and lifelong learning.”
