So it’s official. We are moving this summer, just like the thousands of families that move between the end of one school year and the start of another. For over ten years we’ve been sharing space in the Valley View School in Forest Lawn. Although we love the youthful energy captured in a school, surrounded by the children and families we serve, we’ve been limited by the location, access to and the size of our office. As we’ve grown, developed new programs, and charted new territory, we’ve realized the need for a new space to better match our new needs.
Our new home is at the Kahanoff Centre, an 11 story building that shelters numerous non-profit organizations in the heart of Calgary. It is designed to foster interaction and collaboration. Some of our new neighbours there include Volunteer Calgary, Burns Memorial Fund, United Way of Calgary and Area and Youth Central.
Our main-floor space is bright, open and inclusive. It will give us not just the physical space to grow, but room to dream of new possibilities and meet new challenges. It will allow us to collaborate more closely with other organizations, host our own training sessions and events, and give us greater visibility in the community. We can’t wait to start the next school year in our new space and to share it with you, our community.
We haven’t reached this exciting new place alone – we have people and organizations to thank. These dedicated folks recognize the importance of early literacy and this team is pulling together towards this shared goal of a functional, beautiful and inspiring new home that will help develop a thriving community where all children read with confidence and joy.
Here, Kimberly from Choice Contacting talks about this unique project.
