One rewarding volunteer experience leads to another

The success of my own children is understandably very important to me. I have a love for reading, as does my wife, and we wanted to instill the same love in our children.

In 2015, I signed up through my company’s community program to read to children at their school’s Reading Rally, which was hosted by Calgary Reads. This single experience, along with my newfound knowledge and understanding of Calgary Reads’ background story, cemented my decision to continue reading to children wherever and whenever I could.

“I am so grateful to be a Calgary Reads volunteer. Literacy is an essential part of a child’s self-confidence, as well as the key to the door of possibility and opportunity.”

Kevin Travis, Calgary Reads Volunteer, Stantec

I am now a trained volunteer in the wee read program, reading to kindergarten students for 30 minutes a week in eight-week stints. I am so grateful that Calgary has Calgary Reads on its side. I am also grateful to be a Calgary Reads volunteer. Literacy is an essential part of a child’s self-confidence, as well as the key to the door of possibility and opportunity. I look forward to seeing where this opportunity will take me!
