Program Volunteer Positions Available
Calgary Reads @ School
Love to read? Passionate about literacy? Enjoy working with young children who need your reading support? Become a trained volunteer tutor. By spending just 30 minutes, twice weekly for 16 weeks with a struggling Grade 1 or 2 student, you can help a child become a confident, successful independent reader. Tutors receive training to follow the Calgary Reads lesson framework that includes a variety of effective reading strategies. Calgary Reads schools arrange times most convenient for our tutors.
Calgary Reads@Home
This program takes place in Calgary Reads schools. It engages and supports the parents of Calgary Reads students in building their capacity to be reading coaches with their children, and to further literacy development in their own homes. Its design is based on current family literacy research. Volunteer opportunities include:
Child Care Provider for Family Literacy Evenings Evening program support.
Calgary Reads Together Event Volunteers
Throughout the school year children and adults celebrate reading with our Together Events. These events bring educators, students, parents, volunteers and businesses together for an hour long reading celebration. Volunteers are needed to share in the joy of reading with the children.
