Share a book. Change a life

To become good readers children need access to good books. So, we don’t just provide opportunities for children to read; we give them access to books they call their own. Many Alberta children have never experienced the joy and pride of owning a book. We’re determined to change that.

Every year, we give away thousands of books through the Calgary Reads Book Bank, our Children’s Reading Place and community partnerships such as the Calgary Food Bank. We also distribute books through schools and Reading Rally events.

Here’s how you can help:

Donate Children’s Books to our Book Bank

We accept new or gently used children’s books throughout the year. Please contact us for details about where to drop off your children’s book donation.

Donate Adult Books to the CBC Calgary Reads Big Book Sale

We accept adult and children book donations year-round at Store & Go every Saturday from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

We cannot accept dictionaries, encyclopedias, Readers Digest, Harlequin, Avon or Signet Romances, magazines, cassettes, CDs, VHS tapes or textbooks.

Organize a book drive

Collect new or gently used children’s books from friends, family members or coworkers and donate them to Calgary Reads.

Sort books

We can always use a few extra hands to sort through our book donations.
